Giving Back to the Community
Since 2001, in one form or another, Community Keepers has been helping to feed neighbors in need in the northwest suburbs. While volunteering at a local food pantry, founder Liz Scheri offered to pick up donated food from Trader Joe’s to help the pantry. The amount of food was more than the pantry needed and no longer wanted the donation. Liz thought it was such a crime to waste all that food so she sought other places to deliver it – churches, food pantries, schools and even a local animal rescue organization. That was the beginning of Community Keepers.
Today with our small band of volunteers we supply food to over 25 pantries and outreach organizations, distribute more than 20,000 cases of food a year and in 2016 we fed 30,000 local families. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization of volunteers dedicated to making our little corner of the world a better place for people in need.
By partnering with retailers and grocery stores we are able to distribute basic supplies and nutritious food to food pantries and other organizations to help those who are impacted by financial difficulties. We deliver donated flowers to our neighbors in nursing homes to brighten their day.
We ARE neighbors helping neighbors.
